Environmental reporting

Our carbon footprint

A transparent view of the carbon emissions associated with the infrastructure that powers RecordMy.

Our approach

Measure first. Improve with evidence.

Digital services have a physical footprint. The servers, electricity and day-to-day operation behind RecordMy all contribute to greenhouse gas emissions. Publishing this information helps us understand that impact, track it over time and make better-informed infrastructure decisions.

This report covers the dedicated server infrastructure used to deliver our service. We show both location-based and market-based figures because each offers a useful, distinct view of electricity emissions.

At a glance

Infrastructure emissions

Market-based reporting reflects the electricity purchasing arrangements associated with the infrastructure. Location-based reporting uses the average emissions intensity of the grids where electricity is consumed.

Methodology

How to read the figures

Carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e) expresses the warming effect of different greenhouse gases as a single comparable measure. The assessment groups the infrastructure footprint into manufacturing, electricity and operations.

These figures relate to hosting infrastructure rather than every activity across our wider business. We will use future reporting periods to monitor changes and identify the areas where reductions can have the greatest effect.

Location-based

Calculates electricity emissions using the average grid emissions factor for the location where the energy is consumed.

Market-based

Calculates electricity emissions using the energy purchasing arrangements and contractual instruments associated with the supply.

Reporting categories

Manufacturing covers embodied emissions from producing the equipment. Electricity covers energy used to run it. Operations covers the supporting data-centre activity attributed to the service.
